Theory for Beginners

I thought Summary: Theory for Beginners was very interesting to an extent. I really followed where it talked about the culture and how different things people say can hurt someone easily. Sometimes when im texting someone, I never can tell what mood they are in and I tend to think they are mad when they simply aren't.

I totally agree with what we talked about in class last week about terrorism. I really started to think about how all these shootings happening in the US recently relate to terrorism. I have often thought about how I would know if I was sitting next to a terrorist or not?

Polital Outlook

I don't really know much about this years election. I am undecided on who I want as president as of right now. As of my views, I am a Christian and I usually am for all of the Christian rights. As for what my mom has told me, I don't agree with a lot that Obama has to offer or what he is doing for our country. I don't really care that  much about the election which I know I should. I have been trying to figure it all out the past couple of months and talking to my parents about it. I really would like for the gas prices to go down because $4 a gallon is ridiculous. I really am for elders getting more attention on their health and getting more medical help. My grandmother is getting very old and sick and I just want her to get better in the best way possible. My view on high school is students should not be able to drop out even with their parents permission. Everyone needs and deserves a good education and needs to stay in school. More people would stay in school if the teachers cared more about their students. I think teachers should stop and listen to what their students have to say and talk about instead of ignoring them and just slapping things at them. I also believe that the pledge of allegience should be back in schools as well as prayer. I don't understand why it was taken out in the first place. This country is great to live in but would be better if people were just a whole lot nicer and more respectful. Like I said, I don't know much about politics but I do want this country in good shape. I'm going to keep looking at the different views and see who I will go with but as of right now I'm still undecided.

Videos

I thought the 21 Century Enlightenment was a very interesting and fun filled video. There were a lot of important ideas that were said. I agree with his saying on how we all need to stop worrying about what others are doing and worry about our own selves. I really agree on the Education video because I am not a huge fan of school. I definatly didn't care for a lot of my high school teachers because all they did was give us work and not really care about talking about different topics and opinions about our work in the class. Some high school teachers just do not care one lick of their students and only care about getting work out to the students and having them turn the work in on time. I think this world in education needs to be more caring and loving toward their students. The videos had a lot to say and during some of it I got lost because the man in the vidoe talks super fast and I couldn't understand a lot he had to say. What I got out of the videos was very interesting to me as a student and as a citizen of the 21st Century. I also really enjoyed how he drew all of what he was saying. It really helped me out a whole lot because I am a visual learner. I like to see pictures while Im reading something or having something explained to me. Im glad you posted these videos to us because I got a lot of information out of them that will be helpful in the future. The only thing I didn't like was how fast he spoke and how much imformation he put into it but other than that they were good to watch.

criticism

Michael Ryan offers a different type of introduction, which involves the reader in the problems and pleasures of thinking about criticism. This introduction is by far the best I have read in a while. It has various topics that are very imformative. I enjoyed reading about and talking in class about how when people talk to you in a certain way, some get affended by it and others don't. Sometimes when im texting a friend of mine, I never canntell how they are imforming me and whether its harsh or not. We as Americans are so spoiled that we think we can get what we want through communication but we can't. We have to learn to live with hateful people sometimes. A lot of texts in books and magizines, etc. affend people and no one knows how to handle it. My opinion about criticism varies depending on how its given. People have to learn how to handle different types of criticism. Cultural images influence our human behavior, our ideas change history, and our spoken words have force. Words are physical things, they can hurt or heal.
